Timor (Coins)

Area: 6,970 square miles                                                         Population: 574,000

While the western part, including the village of Kupang, belonged to Indonesia since 1947, the northeastern part of the island of Timor remained Portuguese. In 1952 Portugal changed the colony into an Overseas Province. In 1976 Portuguese Timor was annexed by Indonesia.
