Serbia (Coins)

In 1878 the Berlin Congress granted full independence to the Principality of Serbia. In 1882 Prince Milan accepted the royal status. In the Fall of 1918 the South Slavs of the Austro-Hungarian area and Montenegro united with Serbia, comprising the new kingdom. During World War II, from 1941 to 1944, Serbia became a separate state under German sovereignty. After this relatively short period under foreign government, the unity of the Yugoslavian state was restored.
