On September 16, 1963 the monarchical, federated State of Malaysia was created. It includes the territories of Malaya (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Malakka, Negri, Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor, and Trengganu), as well as Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo or Kalimantan. Singapore withdrew from the federation on August 9, 1965.
