French West Africa comprises the territories of Dahomey, the Ivory Coast, French Guinea, French Sudan, Mauritania, Niger, Upper Volta and Senegal. French West Africa was organization in 1946 as part of the Union Francaise, and at the end of 1958 the individual territories, apart from French Guinea, became autonomous republics within the Communaute Francaise, and in 1960, fully independent. French Sudan took the name of Mali. Since 1957 Togoland is also part of the Monetary Territory of French West Africa.
