Fiji Islands (Coins)

Area: 7,039 square miles                                               Population: 715,000        

A group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. Discovered in 1643 by Abel Janszoon Tasman and visited in 1774 by James Cook. Also, explored in 1827 by Dumont d’Urville. After the abdication of King Cakobau on October 10, 1874 it became a British possession. The islands have had a large measure of internal autonomy since 1965.

Monetary System

12 pence = 1 Shilling, 2 Shillings = 1 Florin, 20 Shillings = 1 Pound; since January 13, 1969: 100 Cents = 1 Fiji Dollar

Obverse crown over legend of George VI. Rev. origin, date and value. Super clean about uncirculated example with absolutely minimal marks and beautiful soft gray luster. Nice trace of rose present. (View image for more detail.)
