Estonia (Coins)

At the beginning of the 13th century the Estonians were converted to Christianity by the Germans and the Danes. In 1346 the northern part of the territory, formerly Danish, was sold to a German crusading Order called the Knights of the Sword. Estonia became Swedish in 1561, and a Russian province in 1721. On February 24, 1918 the Estonian Republic was proclaimed, but was occupied by Russian troops in June, 1940 and was part of the Confederation of States of the Soviet Union until its breakup.
