	Under the designation of Central Congo, the country was formerly part of French Equatorial Africa. On November 28, 1958 the country received limited autonomy and on August 15, 1960, Congo-Brazzaville became independent. Transformation into a People’s Republic took place on December 31, 1969. Congo-Brazzaville belongs to the currency area of Equatorial Africa.
