British Virgin Islands (Coins)

Area: 41 Square Miles                                                              Population: 14,000

The British Virgin Islands include the islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost van Dyke and numerous inlets. After the breakup of the West Indian Federation, which they had joined as individual colonies on January 3, 1958, the status of these islands was somewhat obscure; the Virgin Islands reverted to the former status of a British Colony. Even after the introduction of their own currency on June 30, 1973, the monetary units of the USA have remained in use.
