The largest country in South America. Discovered in 1500 by Pedro Alvares Cabral who took possession in the name of Portugal. Declaration of Independence was issued in 1822 freeing the country from the domination of Portugal. First an Empire, Brazil has been a Republic since November 15, 1889.
